To have undertaken post-graduate study or had relevant experience in theories, assessment and therapy techniques / approaches for children with complex communication disorders
To have undertaken post-graduate study or had relevant experience in implications for delays / disorders within an educational setting
Desirable criteria
To have undertaken post-graduate study or had relevant experience in special educational issues for client groups
Knowledge
Essential criteria
Up-to-date knowledge of research relating to children with speech and language disorders
Awareness of principles of clinical governance
Developed negotiating and problem solving skills.
Understanding of the roles of other professionals working with specialist client group
Desirable criteria
Working knowledge of the Care Aims Model
Applied knowledge of issues around inclusive education and the associated issues for children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs
Applied knowledge of the impact of socio-economic factors affecting speech and language therapy provision

Main duties of the job
The post holder works as a member of the Speech and Language Therapy Children’s Service. He / she works as a member of the team that provides support to children in mainstream primary and secondary schools, across language resource provisions and alternative provisions. The post holder participates in the assessment and advice service as well as supporting a designated caseload of children and schools in line with the service priorities supported by the Lead and Coordinators for Mainstream Schools.
